Review: Kāpiti Ice Cream’s New Vegan Range

Updated: Mar 10

When a premium ice cream brand that’s been around since the 80s releases a vegan ice cream range with a whopping four new flavours, you can’t help but celebrate! Kāpiti Ice Cream made this announcement recently and it’s fair to say that the news received a warm welcome from the vegan community of Aotearoa.

When I shared this info on Facebook, the post reached ~40K people organically, if that’s not a sign that Kāpiti nailed it, then I don’t know what is!

When I first heard about these new treats, my first thought was, “what a time to be alive” and my second was “what flavour do I try first?!”

Sure, you can get all flavours at once but in case that isn’t an option, I have taken one for the team (lol), tried them all and ranked them in order of ‘trying priority’.

I’m not a fan of vegan ice cream that tastes too much like coconut, instead, I like products that mimic how I remember ice cream tasting when I wasn’t vegan. I have a huge sweet tooth and could easily eat an entire block of chocolate on my own. Just last week I actually drove an hour in peak traffic to buy chocolate-covered liquorice from Portershed…that is how much I love vegan treats! In short, I like simple OG flavours and these new Kāpiti ice creams do not disappoint…

The new flavours are:

  • Plant-Based Chocolate & Boysenberry

  • Plant-Based Chocolate Fudge Brownie

  • Plant-Based Salted Caramel & Macadamia

  • Plant-Based Vanilla Chocolate & Cookie
